Pakistan calls upon India to restrain its forces from firing at LoC

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has lodged protest with India through diplomatic channels over the unprovoked firing and mortar shelling by the India forces in Pandu Sector across the Line of Control (LoC), the Foreign Office said on Friday.

The Indian troops again resorted to unprovoked firing in Pandu Sector at the LoC near Muzaffarabad on Thursday that left one Pakistani soldier Sepoy Zahid Ali killed.

“Pakistani troops befittingly responded to Indian firing,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

In a statement on Friday, the Foreign Office said that the Pakistani government condemned the incident and “called upon India to restrain its security forces from unprovoked firing and shelling across the LoC and the Working Boundary.”

The Foreign Office said the government of Pakistan has also offered its condolences to the bereaved family of the Shaheed soldier.

The yesterday’s incident occurred hours after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Muzaffarabad and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unequivocal political, moral and diplomatic support to Kashmiri people in attaining their right to self-determination.

In his address at the Azad Jammu & Kashmir Council budget session in Muzaffarabad on Thursday, the prime minister said that unprovoked firing on the LoC by the Indian forces have harmed the confidence building measures.
