Pakistan urges Iran to share evidence of act of terrorism

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office said on Friday that Iran should share evidence of the act of terrorism with Pakistan to root out this menace.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Friday, the Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said that there are mechanisms between Pakistan and Iran to discuss incidents of terrorisms. She said that both the countries are neighbors and enjoy good fraternal ties.

Her statement came in response to a question regarding statement of the Iranian Deputy Commander, in which he warned that Iran will step in to contain terrorists if Pakistan refuses to take action to secure its borders and prevent the terrorists from slipping into the Islamic Republic.

“We believe that every country should respect its commitments vis-à-vis its own internal security as well as that of neighboring countries,” Iran’s Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami said on Thursday.

“Terrorists, wherever they may be, even on the soil of neighboring countries, we will find them, and if they do not give up acts of terrorism, we will deal with them without reservation,” Salami said.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said in response to Salami’s remarks that we should not be reactive to such incidents, especially when there is no evidence.

The spokesperson said that last time allegations leveled against Pakistan in kidnapping of Iranian guards were proven wrong, adding that the incident also took place in Iranian territories.

Tasneem Aslam further said that terrorism is a global threat and we need a collective effort to combat it.
