RAWALPINDI: The Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

The Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said that the ongoing military operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ against the militants in the North Waziristan tribal region was discussed during the meeting.

The both sides also discussed matters of mutual interest including measures to improve security along the Pak-Afghan border, the ISPR said.

The media citing sources reported that the army chief also asked the Afghan defence authorities to destroy Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nuristan provinces where fleeing Taliban militants from Pakistan were getting shelter and support, and carrying out attacks on Pakistan border areas.

The Afghan ambassador assured that Afghanistan would extend full cooperation to Pakistan in its ongoing operation against militants in North Waziristan and that the message to destroy the hideouts would be conveyed to top Afghan defence authorities.
