PakistanECP issues code of conduct for security personnel, observers and polling staff

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday issued the code of conduct for security personnel, foreign observers, and polling staff for the upcoming general elections, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

The code of conduct bound all polling officers to oblige with the high authorities and discharge their duties without any prejudice.

Similarly, foreign dignitaries including observers would have to respect Pakistan’s sovereignty.

The permission granted to the foreign observers would stand cancelled, in case they violated the ECP’s code of conduct and they would not be allowed to stay in Pakistan after expiry of their visas, ECP stated. Likewise, they would not be allowed to comment in personnel capacity on media.

Moreover, the security personnel would be bound to comply with the orders of returning and presiding officers on polling day and would not enter polling stations without being directed by the presiding officers.

According to the ECP code of conduct, law enforcement agencies would be responsible for security and transportation of election material.
