IranIran ready to help Iraqi govt in fight against Sunni militants: Rouhani

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani

TEHRAN: The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that his country is ready to help the Iraqi government in its fight against the Al Qaeda-inspired Sunni militant group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) within the framework of international law.

However, Rouhani said, that the Iraqi government has so far not requested the assistance.

“If the Iraqi government wants help, we will study it; of course no demand has yet been raised until today but we are ready for help within the framework of the international laws and at the request of the Iraqi nation,” Rouhani said in a press conference in Tehran on Saturday.

The Iranian president also rejected alleged reports on the deployment of Iranian troops in Iraq.

“Of course, we should know that help and assistance is one issue, and interference and entrance (into the battlefield) is another. If the Iraqi government demands us we will help them, but the entrance of the Iranian troops (onto the scene of battles in Iraq) has never been considered,” the president said.

Meanwhile in a twitter message he indicates that USA gave weapons against Syrian government tat are being used by ISIS now against Iraq.
