Pakistan, China ink deal on Lahore Metro train service project

SHANGHAI: Pakistan and China on Thursday signed an agreement for Lahore metro train service project named as “Lahore Orange Line Metro Train” worth $1.6 billion.

The train route will be 27.1 kilometer long. 6.5 km of the track will be underground. Orange Line will link and run through Ali Town, Niaz Baig, Canal View, Hanjarwal, Wahdat Colony, Awan Town, Sabzazar, Shahnoor Studios, Salahudin Road, Bund Road Samanabad, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Chauborji, Lake Road and then it will cnnect with CENTRAL —Green Line coming from Gajumata. From Central it will run through Lakshami Showk, Sultanpura, Engineering University, Baghbanpura, Shalimar Gardens, Mint Mahmood Booti, Islam Park, Salamalpura and ends at Dera Gujran.

The agreement was signed by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Chairman of the Chinese National Development Reforms Commission in Shanghai on Thursday.

President Mamnoon Hussain and his Chinese counterpart witnessed the signing ceremony.

Later talking to media, Shahbaz Sharif said that the project on completion will benefit millions of commuters.
