ASWJ Leaders’ killing: case registered against unknown persons

ISLAMABAD: Police registered a case on Saturday against unknown persons over the killing of the Ahle Sunaat Wal Jamaat (AWSJ) Islamabad General Secretary and a party’s office bearer in a firing incident in Islamabad a day ago.

The case was registered in I-9 Police Station Islamabad, which includes clauses of murder and terrorism.

Meanwhile, thousands of AWSJ workers offered the funeral prayers of slain leader Mufti Muneer Muawiya and his associate Asad Mehmood at the Jinnah Avenue in Islamabad. The Khateeb of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz led the funeral prayers.

Mufti Muneer Muawiya will be laid to rest in his native city Murree.

Earlier, party’s leaders and workers placed bodies of the slain persons outside the D Chowk in front of the Parliament House and held a peaceful protest. They demanded a crackdown against Shia militant groups and fool proof security for the AWSJ leaders.

The AWSJ Islamabad General Secretary Mufti Muneer Muawiya and the office bearer of the party Asad Mehmood were shot dead by unknown armed motorcyclists in sector I-8 of Islamabad after they left congregational prayers on Friday afternoon.
