PTI sit-in against NATO supplies challenged in PHC

PESHAWAR: A petition was filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday against sit-in staged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its allied parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to block NATO supplies.

The petition was filed by the exporter Lal Muhammad, arguing that Afghan transit trade and other vehicles carrying trade goods are being searched illegally at the pretext of NATO supply.

The petitioner contended that sensitive goods and food items become stale due to blockage of key routes, inflicting heavy losses to exporters.

Moreover, he argued that workers of any party have no right to stop vehicles and check their documents. He, therefore, called on the high court to stop the PTI from staging sit-in.

The PTI and its coalition partners have set up NATO supply blockade camps at five points in four districts of the province since November 23 in protest against the US drone strikes in Pakistan.
