LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday approved the Punjab Local Government Bill 2013 with a clear majority amid opposition’s walk-out.
Under the bill, local government elections in the province will be held on non-party basis.
The sources said that the provincial legislature rejected 37 amendments in the bill. Out of 37 amendments 13 were presented by the government members while other 20 amendments were raised by opposition members.
The speaker Punjab assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan rejected all the amendments presented by the government members and the opposition.
On this, members of the opposition parties staged a walk-out from the assembly.
The house then passed the bill and adjourned the session till Thursday.
