PoliticsHRCP voices deep concerns over political victimization of PTI

ISLAMAABD, Pakistan: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed deep concerns over reports that various Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates are allegedly being prevented by authorities from filing their nomination papers for the upcoming elections, and that the party was denied their choice of electoral symbol.

“We also condemn the registration of FIRs in recent days against PTI workers and leaders in different cities on vague allegations of threatening public order,” the HRCP remarked in a statement on X on Saturday.

The HRCP said that these actions, coupled with the continued imprisonment since 9th May of women associated with the party, flout democratic norms, the rule of law, and the fundamental right to political representation and association.

The Commission has again reminded the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to not overstep their mandate to ensure fair and credible elections.
