The main causes of death of infants dying within the first month are:
- Lack of respiration at the time of birth
- Birth before completion of 37 weeks of gestation/pregnancy
- Severe infections at the time of birth
- Birth weight less than 2.5 kg
- Inherited defects within the baby
The main causes of death at 03, 06 and 12 months of age include the following:
- Diarrhea
- Pneumonia
- Meningitis
