ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 136,213 doctors and dentists were registered with the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), previously known as the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), in the last 10 years.

The Minister for National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination told the National Assembly on Friday in writing that 115,311 doctors & 19,053 dentists graduated from Pakistani Universities and 1,622 doctors & 227 dentists graduated from Foreign Universities were registered with the PMDC (now PMC) in the last 10 years.

The House was told that during the period, 50,338 male students and 64,973 female students having received the degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) while 4,869 male students and 14,185 female students having received the degree in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Pakistani Colleges/Universities were enlisted with the PMC.

Likewise, 1,622 foreign Pakistani graduates in MBBS including 1,075 males & 547 females and 227 graduates in BDS including 152 males and 75 females were registered with the PMC.

The minister also told the House that medical doctors working in federal and provincial government hospitals/ departments are entitled to get the non-practicing allowance.
