ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday performed the groundbreaking of upgradation and rehabilitation of 62 kilometers long Lodhran-Multan Highway.

The project is an important section of Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar National Highway (N-5), and it will be completed by the National Highway Authority (NHA) at a cost Rs 6.886 billion in two years’ time.

In his address at the groundbreaking ceremony, the prime minister said the government had steered the Country out of difficult times and now it would witness sustainable growth and development.

The prime minister said there would be now wealth generation and people would get job opportunities. On the economic front, he said the people would continue to hear good news.

Imran Khan said the Country registered a growth of 4 percent in the Financial Year 2020-21 despite the COVID-19 challenge. He said they not only saved their people from the pandemic but also the economy.

The prime minister said the government was focusing on uplifting the agriculture, industries, IT, housing and tourism to take forward the Country. He said a package was being brought for the farmers to bring green revolution in the Country.

The prime minister said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project had entered in the next phase of industrialization wherein the Chinese companies would relocate their industries in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) of Pakistan.

Furthermore, he said they were building 10 dams as part of efforts to enhance their water storage capacity. He said to protect the future of their coming generations, they were planting 10 billion trees.

Imran Khan said the government had given unprecedented incentives to the construction industry and as a result of which the cement sale had reached record levels.

Regarding the affordable houses for the people under the Naya Pakistan Housing Program, the prime minister said the people had shown great interest in taking soft loans from the banks for the construction of houses. He said the banks had so far received loan demands of Rs 60 billion. He said the government also had a plan to establish such financial institutions which only provided loans for the construction of houses.

The prime minister said they had waged a struggle to purge the society from different mafias who only worked for their vested interests. He said their struggle was aimed at ensuring rule of law in the Country as no society could progress without bringing the powerful people under the umbrella of law.
