ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Institute of Health (NIH) has conducted a Seminar “Think Fungus, Save Lives” to create awareness and understand the fungal disease burden in the Country.

The Session was moderated by Medical Microbiologist at NIH Dr. Afreenish Amir.

The Head of Microbiology at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Rawalpindi Dr. Irfan Mirza, the Head of Microbiology at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad Dr. Muhammad Usman and Dr. Nasim Akhtar delivered keynote talks on mycotic diseases.

The Fungal Disease Awareness Week was held from September 21 to 25, 2020.

Fungal Disease  - The National Institute of Health (NIH) has conducted a Seminar to create awareness and understand the fungal disease burden in the Country. The Session was moderated by Dr Afreenish Amir. Dr Irfan Mirza, Dr Muhammad Usman and Dr Nasim Akhtar delivered keynote talks on mycotic diseases. Three days hand on training was conducted for pilot sites including Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), Shifa International Hospital, and Pakistan Institute Of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for Candida auris surveillance in the Country. Candida auris and advanced diagnostic techniques including the MALDI-TOF were discussed and diagnostic procedures were performed in the laboratory.

Meanwhile, three days hand on training was conducted for pilot sites including AFIP, Shifa International Hospital, and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for Candida auris surveillance in the Country.

Candida auris and advanced diagnostic techniques including the MALDI-TOF were discussed and diagnostic procedures were performed in the laboratory.
