HYDERABAD: Addressing a news conference in Karachi‚ Jamaat-e-Islami Chief said the party has withdrawn its candidates from all constituencies of Karachi and two constituencies of Hyderabad.

Jamaat-e-Islami has announced to boycott elections in Karachi and two constituencies of Hyderabad in protest against alleged harassing of their voters at different polling stations in the two cities.

 

Addressing a news conference in Karachi‚ Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Syed Munawar Hassan said the party has withdrawn its candidates from all constituencies of Karachi and two constituencies of Hyderabad.

 

Munnawar Hassan said that JI does not consider elections worth contesting. He alleged that the voters of his party are being frightened and halted to cast their votes. He accused MQM of forcibly hijacking the elections.

 

JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehnati announced to hold sit-in outside the ECP Sindh. He said that the party will hold peaceful protest demonstrations on 13 May (Monday) to show that people of Karachi have been deprived of their right to vote.

 

He said that polling has delayed due to theft of polling material at 50 polling stations.
