Coronavirus threat: Punjab further tightens restrictions on gatherings, all gyms and snooker...

LAHORE, Pakistan: In a bid to curtail the outburst of the Novel Coronavirus which has already infected 442 people in Pakistan, the Punjab government has further tightened the restrictions on social activities and people’s gatherings across the province.

Under the new restrictions, all functions, ceremonies and social gatherings at home or private promises have been banned with immediate effect till April 4, 2020.

Likewise, directives have also been issued to shut all gyms and snooker clubs throughout the Punjab province.

The new restrictions have been imposed under Section 144(6) of “The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1989”, which are an addition to the already imposed restrictions on March 14, 2020.

In its order, the Punjab Home Department said that the spreading of Coronavirus throughout the world including Pakistan, may have devastating effects on human lives; hence, it is mandatory to take all possible measures to counter the pandemic on war footings.

Meanwhile, the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has already caused huge fatalities across the World and so far 10,048 people have lost their lives to it.

In Pakistan as well, three virus-infected patients have passed away whereas the tally of people having developed COVID-19 Symptoms has reached 442.

With 238 affectees, Sindh remains atop followed by Balochistan and Punjab wherein 81 and 80 people have been diagnosed with the virus so far. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has so far 23 confirmed cases, Gilgit-Baltistan 12, Islamabad 7, and Azad Kashmir 1.
