Monitoring Desk: In an unprecedented move, 7 million people formed 620 km long Human Chain in Kerala against Modi government for introducing Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens NRC).


To mark Indian Republic Day, Chief Minister Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan joined 620 km Human Chain formed by over 7 million people demanding repeal of CAA and NRC.

The unique protest was organized by ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) against amendment in Citizenship Act and National Register of Citizens.

Human Chain started from Kasaragod in North Kerala to Kaliyakkavilai in the Southernmost part of the state by the ruling CPI(M) led front on Republic Day (Sunday 26 January 2020.

The unique protest was organized by ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) against amendment in Citizenship Act and National Register of Citizens.

Times of India reported that Chief Minister Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing protest stated that CAA and NRC is (was) a threat to the secularism of India and Kerala has made it clear that CAA, NRC and NPR will not be implemented on this soil.

CPI(M) leader S Ramachandran Pillai was the first link of the chain at Kasaragod and MA Baby was the last in Kaliyakkavilai.

The human chain was formed at 4 pm on Sunday 26 January 2020 following which the preamble of the Constitution was read out. Participants later took an oath to protect the Constitution from the “attempts of the central government” to destroy it.
