About Suzuki Wagon R

The Suzuki Wagon R is a kei car manufactured and marketed by Suzuki since 1993. The R in the name stands for Revolution and Relaxation. The Wagon R uses a “tall wagon” configuration to maximize cabin space within kei car dimensional restrictions.

The Wagon R has been the best-selling kei car in Japan since 2003. In 2008, Suzuki produced its three-millionth Wagon R. Sales reached 5 million at the end of February 2010.

What’s New to Launch?

Suzuki is looking forward to launching a new and premium variant of its popular hatchback, Suzuki Wagon R, in the Indian market.

As per the details, the premium variant of Wagon R has been spotted several times masked and doing test rounds on the roads of India. Maruti Suzuki is expected to sell the premium version of Wagon R through its Nexa showrooms in India. The exterior of the vehicle was condensed recently by a digital artist of IAB that gives us a fair idea of how the premium version would look like.

The company is looking forward to upgrading its popular hatchback by adding some premium features. As of now, Wagon R is into its 3rd generation in India that was introduced at the beginning of last year. The proportions of this version look identical to the regular version of Wagon R but yet there is something new to reveal.

Design

In terms of new Wagon R’s design of the exterior, the hatchback is expected to get a few premium additions such as split headlamp comprising of high-set bonnet mounted day-time running lights (DRLs) and lower-set of headlights.

The front design of this vehicle will be much more stylish with uniquely designed upper and lower grille, front bumper, and newly positioned fog lamps. Other updates may include silver touch-ups underneath the front bumper and side-body baseline. The side looks reveal newly designed 15-inch black alloy wheels while the rear side will get LED tail lamps and high-mounted stop lamp.

In terms of its interior, not much of the changes are expected from the manufacturers. However, the premium variant would have additional comfort and will offer more convenience to its customers. There are also assumptions that Maruti might feature an all-black cabin and add an automatic climate control feature in the premium version of Wagon R. Nonetheless, such features will set apart the premium version from the regular one.Premium Suzuki Wagon R

Engine

The most important aspect will be the engine used for the premium version of Wagon R. It’s most likely that the automaker will stick to its BS-6 compliant 4-cylinder 1.2-liter K12M petrol engine mated to a 5-speed transmission in it. Note here that this particular engine was added to the power train options of Wagon R with the launch of the latest model of Wagon R in India. It produces a maximum power of 61 kW at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. The other option being the BS-4 compliant 3-cylinder 1.0-liter K10B engine, which delivers 50 kW of maximum power at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm.

Wagon R in Pakistan

Pakistan is still producing the 1st generation of the Wagon R model in the local auto sector. It’s currently available in two variants, i.e. VXR and VXL. Recently, Pak Suzuki has also launched the AGS variant of Wagon R in the market. The only difference between the VXL and AGS versions of Wagon R is the type of transmission and the addition of the driver’s side airbag in the AGS version.

Wagon R in India

The Indian-based Wagon R is more power-packed with features than the one produced in Pakistan. The Indian version is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto; steering mounted voice controls, rear screen washer, and wiper, airbags, fog lamps, etc. These features are absent in the locally produced version of Wagon R in Pakistan. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has priced in India between INR 4.42-5.91 lac, which is approximately between PKR 9.55-12.77 lacs. However, Wagon R Pakistan costs between PKR 16.1-18.9 lacs.

Final Word

All of this information is reported as per the primary knowledge though there is much more to surface with the launch of the car. Plus the reviews from across the border will sketch a map for the buyers in Pakistan about if they should buy the new variant or not. Well… most important thing is that no one knows about when this luscious Wagon R Premium will be making its way to the auto-market of Pakistan.
