Foreign OfficeIndia committed over 3000 ceasefire violations in 2019 alone, FM told UN

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has apprised the United Nations that India has committed more than 3,000 ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) targeting over 300 civilians since January 2019 alone, along with other detrimental steps that are posing serious risks for regional peace and security.

In his letter to the UN Security Council (UNSC) and the UN Secretary General António Guterres on December 12, 2019 that was part of a sequence of letters sent to aforementioned authorities on August 1,6, 13 & 26, September 16 and October 31, Qureshi again updated the UNSC and the UN secretary general on the grave situation in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJ&K).

The foreign minister conveyed Pakistan’s serious concerns over India’s illegal and unilateral actions in IOJ&K and the resultant human rights and humanitarian situation as well as India’s belligerent rhetoric and steps on the ground posing serious risks to peace and security.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi apprised them on Indian actions that continue to escalate tensions in an already tense environment in South Asia. He told that India has stepped up unprovoked and deliberate ceasefire violations on the LoC, and since January 2019 alone, it has committed 3,000 ceasefire violations, targeting over 300 civilians including women and children.

Besides, India has partially removed fence in five sectors along the LoC, probably aiming to plan some ‘misadventure’ across the LoC.

The foreign minister also apprised that India has also deployed Brahmos Missile regiments, anti-tank guided missiles and Spike missiles for use across the LoC. In addition to that, India has conducted numerous missile tests since August 2019.
