Elections 2013CEC raises concerns over security for sensitive polling stations

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhrudin G Ibrahim has raised concerns over inadequate security measures for most sensitive polling stations and requested Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to deploy army personnel.

In a letter to the army chief, Fakhrudin said that despite limitations in terms of resources the presence of army personnel on highly sensitive polling stations is mandatory on May 11. He said total number of highly sensitive polling stations is about 14, 000.

The letter further says for free, fair and transparent elections, the commission and army have to endeavor jointly to ensure security by deploying army at most sensitive polling stations.
