ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday dismissed  the petition filed by the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, seeking suspension of his seven-year imprisonment sentence in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills Reference Case on medical grounds.

The two-member Bench of the IHC consisting of Justice Amir Farooqi and Justice Mohsin Kiyani announced the verdict after hearing arguments from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Prosecutor and Nawaz Sharif’s Counsel Khawaja Haris.

During the course of hearing in the IHC today, Khawaja Haris apprised the bench that more than 60 percent health condition of Nawaz Sharif is in danger and he needs further treatment. He said that treatment was also essential to reduce the mental stress, the former prime minister was facing in jail.

Justice Mohsin Kiyani asked Khawaja Haris that if doctors had declared that Nawaz Sharif’s cure was not possible in the Country. On that, he replied in the affirmative, and also said that the former premier’s health condition was deteriorating day by day.

Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison on December 24, 2018 by the Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills Company (ASCL) Reference filed by the NAB.
