The Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain has been arrested in London by Scotland Yard Police in a case related to his alleged hate speech in 2016.

His arrest took place when Scotland Yard Police raided his residence in North West London early morning on Tuesday, and then took him to a police station and beganĀ an interrogation from him.

In a statement, the London Police also confirmed his arrest saying that “A man has today, Tuesday, 11 June, been arrested in connection with an investigation into a number of speeches made by an individual associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Pakistan“.

The London Police said that Altaf HussainĀ was arrested on suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting offences contrary to Section 44 of the Serious Crime Act 2007.

It said that Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command are carrying out the investigation into his hate speech in August 2016 as well as his other speeches.

Throughout the investigation, officers have been liaising with Pakistani authorities in relation to our ongoing enquiries,” the statement added.
