ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly has been informed that 120 employees have been dismissed/terminated from National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on account of issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to non-nationals.

The Minister for Interior Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Ahmad Shah told the House while replying to a question by Balochistan National Party’s (BNP) Muhammad Hashim Notezai that CNICs are issued to Pakistani Citizens only.

Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Ahmad Shah told that if some foreigner is able to acquire CNIC through forged documents or through falsification, then his/her card is cancelled. He said that 9,554 CNIC cards have been cancelled while 121,117 cards have been blocked on doubtful national status.

The interior minister further told that a CNIC is issued only once the data (photo/thumb impression) is cross matched against Afghan issued cards/Aliens Registration cards, adding that all doubtful national status cases reported by any verifying agencies are blocked at once.

To another question by Syed Abrar Ali Shah, the interior minister told that House that a total of 24 check posts have been established on the major roads and chowks of Islamabad including eight check posts in high security zone.
