ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul has informed the National Assembly that a proposal is under consideration to convert all buildings of the federal government in the Country including Islamabad on solar energy system.

While apprising the House in a written reply to a question by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) lawmaker Sheikh Rohale Asghar, the minister told that a proposal is being submitted in this respect under the Prime Minister’s Solarization Programme for approval of the competent authority, in consultation with the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and the Ministry of Science & Technology.

Zartaj Gul said that the Power Division has informed that solarization and internal conservation of electricity energy of public sector buildings can bring multiple advantages clean and affordable energy at sustainable level, savings in electricity bills, development of local market and skilled manpower transfer of technology and opening up avenues for new investment. Solarization of public buildings can meet certain share from electricity load, and has the potential to bring huge savings and new investment in the country.

The minister said that the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) has also supported the concept of solarizing the Public Sector buildings and has suggested participation of private sector in the initiative.

Furthermore, she told that so far the Ministry of Climate Change has converted one of its attached departments i.e. Zoological Survey of Pakistan (ZSP) on solar energy with the grant assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
