ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Cabinet has approved the appointment of Arshad Malik as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry informed.

Briefing the media about the decisions of the Federal Cabinet which met in Islamabad on Tuesday with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Chair, Fawad Chaudhry apprised that boards of Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC), Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited (SSGPL), and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) have been reconstituted.

Fawad Chaudhry told that Shamsuddin Sheikh has been appointed as the Chairman PMDC while Qamar Javed Sharif has been appointed as the Chief of Oil and OGDCL. He further informed that Dr Shamshad Akhtar has been appointed as the new Head of SSGPL and Syed Dilawar Abbas as the Chief of SNGPL.

The minister said that the Cabinet also approved appointment of judges of various Banking Courts. He said that the Cabinet approved extension in the license of Vision Air International for one year

The information minister told that Hassan Irfan Khan has been removed from the IPO Policy Board.

Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Division

Fawad Chaudhry further told that the Federal Cabinet in its today’s meeting also formally approved creation of a new division in the name of Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Division.

The minister said that the new division will be headed by Dr Sania Nishtar and it will coordinate functions of different organizations under the newly launched Ehsas Programme.

The Information minister made it clear that the federal government is not going to change the name of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
