$2.5 million collected for dams fund from Canadian Cities

News$2.5 million collected for dams fund from Canadian Cities

VANCOUVER, Canada: The fund raising campaign by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dam is at full swing and pledges of $2.5 million have been collected so far from different Cities of Canada.

While addressing the participants at the fund-raiser in Vancouver, the PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan lauded efforts of Pakistani Community in Canada for holding magnificent events of Overseas Pakistanis and generously contributing in the dam fund.

Applauding the minor girl who had donated her ear rings for the cause, he said that this spirit is our valuable asset and with this we can overcome any crisis.

The Head of “IamPakistanMovement” Syed Ahmed purchased the earrings and donated the amount to dam fund. However Faisal Javed returned the earrings to the girl, stating that same passion and generosity from the people of all ages especially youth he had witnessed during fundraising for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMH).

Pinning his hope on Imran Khan, Senator Faisal Javed stated that Imran Khan will succeed in making dams and addressing water crisis the way, he succeeded in constructing world class cancer hospital for the poor.

Faisal Javed commended participation of other political parties including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the event, stating that we should collectively strive for this cause keeping aside political differences.

Senator Faisal Javed said that Pakistan receives around 145 MAF of water yearly but can only save 13.7 MAF of the total water flow. He went on adding that we waste about 90% of the total water flow because we don’t have storage place. He further stated that in 1947 per capita water availability was 5600 cubic meters in Pakistan and today it has come down to about 1000 cubic meters

“Pakistan has only two large Dams – Canada has 933 large Dams out of 15000 dams,” he continued.

Faisal Javed explained that Pakistan can store only for one month vs minimum requirement of four months, whereas Egypt has water storage capacity of 33 months and the United States has 30 months.

The Senator lamented stating that water worth about $22 billion went to waste in Pakistan every year, adding that the government had worked out a strategy for the construction of the Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dams.

“More than Rs 50 million are flowing into the dam fund daily”, he added.

Faisal Javed said that Pakistanis are one of the most charitable nations in the world and on the contrary they evade taxes. The reason behind, he went on to add, is the lack of trust on the previous governments.

The event was attended by the Sikh leader Ghosal Singh.

In his speech at the event, he praised Prime Minister Imran Khan stating that he is foreseeing Imran Khan as the prime minister of Pakistan for more than 10 years.

Not only Pakistan’s, Imran Khan is world’s pride”, he said and expressed resolve to continue his contribution to such a cause. He also donated $10,000 to the Prime Minister’s dam fund.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s autographed bats fetched $26,000 at the event and were purchased by Asim Ali and Mohammad Yahya jointly.
