Foreign OfficePakistan hints returning Wing Commander Abhinandan back to India

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan is ready to return the Captured Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan back to India if New Delhi assures that it would not escalate the tension with Pakistan.

In a Twitter message on Thursday, the Senior Journalist Hamid Mir cited a Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s statement which he made in response to his question that “If India-Pakistan tension can be defused by the return of Wing Commander Abhinandan we are ready to talk on this issue with India.”

The Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan has been in Pakistan army’s custody since yesterday (February 27, 2019) after Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down his MiG-21 fighter jet in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK).

Meanwhile, Shah Mahmood Qureshi welcomed the statement of the US President Donald Trump regarding interference to de-escalate tension between Pakistan and India.

While briefing media men following the Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad today, Qureshi said that Pakistan has decades old relations with the United States and its interference will be helpful in establishment of peace in the region.

Earlier the US President Donald Trump at a Press Conference in Hanoi on Thursday expressed the hope of de-escalation of tension between Pakistan and India.

Donald Trump said that the US has been mediating between them and trying to have them stop. He hoped that there would be some reasonably decent news about ending the ongoing conflict between the two Countries.
