RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Rawalpindi administration has imposed a complete ban on motorcyclists from entering the Murree Road without helmets.

The ban has been imposed in view of casualties as a total of 16 people have lost their lives due to non-usage of helmets in 46 motorcycles accidents occurred on Mall Road/Peshawar Road in last 10 months.

“Every year we lose precious lives due to accidents involving bikers not wearing necessary safety equipment. In order to make citizens safer District Admin along with Traffic Police is launching a campaign to make Helmets compulsory for all motor bikes,” the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr. Omar Jahangir said on Wednesday.

16 people killed in motorcycles accidents on Murree Road Rawalpindi

In pursuance of request received by Chief Traffic Officer, Rawalpindi dated 14.11.2018 and in the interest of Public safety of Roads specially Mall Road/Peshawar Road, where a total of 46 Motorcycles accidents have taken place in just 10 months resulting in the death of 16 people due to non-usage of helmets. Therefore, Complete Ban is hereby imposed on motorcyclists without helmets from entering Mall Road/Peshawar Road (from Naka signal Battalion to Katchehry Chowk) w.e.f 01.12.2018 till further notice,” said a notification issued on Wednesday by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi administration has also set up stalls outside the Liaqat Bagh and the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Office, wherein helmets are available on control rates.
