ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Presently, 4,467 Utility Stores are operational in the Country while the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) is running into losses for the last five years, the National Assembly was informed.

In a written reply submitted in the House on Wednesday, the Minister for Industries and Production said that though the USC is incurring huge loses but the government has no intention to reduce the number of Utility Stores in the Country.

The House was told that the Utility Stores Corporation suffered a loss of Rs 0.452 billion in 2008-09, Rs 0.709 billion in 2009-10, Rs 0.843 billion in 2010-11, Rs 0.697 billion in 2011-12 and Rs 1.400 billion in 2012-13.

It was further told that the USC incurred a loss of Rs 0.202 billion in 2013-14, Rs 2.203 billion in 2014-15, Rs 3.074 billion in 2015-16, Rs 3.374 billion in 2016-17, and Rs 4.793 billion in 2017-18.

The Minister for Industries and Production told that since 2013 to 2018, Rs 13.646 billion loss has been suffered by the government on account of Utility Stores.
