Rawalpindi, Pakistan: Prominent religious leader and the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) Maulana Samiul Haq was stabbed to death in Rawalpindi on Friday (Maulana Samiul Haq killed).

The JUI-S’s Peshawar President Maulana Haseem also confirmed his death.

His son Maulana Hamidul Haq said that some unknown assailants intruded into Maulana Samiul Haq’s house located in Rawalpindi, and attacked him with knife and then opened fire on him. He said that Maulana was alone in the house as both of his guards had went out just a while ago. However, local police denied that firing was resorted. Police claimed that someone entered his bedroom without any resistance and stabbed him to death.

“Local police and intelligence agencies have started investigated the case and chances of involvement of “some insiders” can not be ruled out”, said a police official while ensuring his identity as he was not authorised to talk to media.

Maulana Hamidul Haq further said that his father was in Islamabad for the ongoing protest against Asia Bibi’s acquittal in Blasphemy Case.

Maulana Samiul Haq was also the Chairman of Difa-e-Pakistan Council. In addition to that, he was also serving as the Chancellor of Darul Uloom Haqqania, a Deobandi Islamic seminary, in Khyber Pakthunkhwa’s Akora Khattak Town.

The JUI-S Chief remained the Senator twice from February 1985 to March 1997 and then again from March 2003 to March 2009.

President Dr. Arif Alvi strongly condemned the assassination of Maulana Samiul Haq, and expressed sorrow and grief over his martyrdom.

In a statement, the president paid tributes to Maulana Samiul Haq’s religious, social and political services.

Separately, Prime Minister Imran Khan also strongly condemned the assassination of Maulana Samiul Haq and expressed grief over his death.

The Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar also condemned Maulana Samul Haq’s murder and sought report from the Inspector General of Punjab Police.
