PoliticsIG Islamabad’s Transfer Case: SC directs Azam Swati to resign, rejects reconciliation

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: While rejecting the Minister for Science and Technology Senator Azam Swati’s plea to let the issue forgo, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday directed him to resign from his Post.

During the hearing of IG Islamabad Jan Mohammad’s transfer suo motu case in the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice said that Azam Swati must resign from his Post as such act of a minister is a crime against the State.

Justice Saqib Nisar said that Azam Swati’s act is tantamount to exceeding his authority.

The Chief Justice also rejected the reconciliation between Azam Swati and affected family, and said that we will not compromise on this matter.

The Chief Justice said that he is going to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which would have representatives of Intelligence Bureau (IB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB), on this matter.

“I am going to form a JIT comprising on IB, FIA and NAB,” the Chief Justice remarked. He said that JIT will also be probing into Azam Swati’s assets.

Justice Saqib Nisar expressed resentment and asked why police didn’t lodge a FIR against Azam Swati?

The victim said that he forgives Azam Swati for the sake of Country’s dignity. However, the Chief Justice said that though the family has forgiven Azam Swati but we will still constitute a JIT to probe the matter.

It is worth noting that IG Islamabad Jan Mohammad was transferred on October 27 after he allegedly refused to take action on a complaint by Azam Swati’s son regarding an incident at their farmhouse.

SC withdraws decision of suspending Islamabad IG’s transfer

Meanwhile, the IG Jan Mohammad excused himself from performing duties, and requested the Apex Court to grant permission on his transfer.

Eventually, the Supreme Court withdrew its order to suspend the notification of IG Islamabad’s transfer.
