Unofficial results of by-elections in 35 National and Provincial Constituencies have already been announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), according to which, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stood atop with 15 seats followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 11 (By-elections 2018 results).

However margin of victory in some of the Constituencies remained very thin, as even in PK-53 Mardan-VI Constituency, the difference of votes bagged by the winner and the runner up remained only 61.

By-elections 2018 results

Low Margin of victory witnessed in following Constituencies;

NA-60 Rawalpindi-IV

Winner: PTI’s Sheikh Rashid Shafique with 44,483 votes

Runner up: PML-N’s Sajjad Khan with 43,836 votes

Margin of victory: 647

 

PP-3 Attock-III

Winner: PML-N’s Iftikhar Ahmed Khan with 43,259 votes

Runner up: PTI’s Muhammad Akbar Khan with 43,032 votes

Margin of Victory: 227 votes

 

PP-27 Jhelum-III

Winner: PML-N’s Nasir Mehmood with 61,542 votes

Runner up: PTI’s Shah Nawaz Raja with 60,886 votes

Margin of Victory: 656

 

PK-7 Swat-VI

Winner: Awami National Party’s (ANP) Waqar Ahmed Khan with 13,997 votes

Runner up: PTI’s Fazal Maula with 13,663 votes

Margin of victory: 334 votes

 

PK-3 Swat-II

Winner: PML-N’s Sardar Khan with 16,859 votes

Runner up: PTI’s Sajid Ali with 15,696

Margin of victory: 1,163

 

PK-44 Swabi-II

Winner: PTI’s Aqib Ullah Khan with 18,723 votes

Runner up: ANP’s Ghulam Hassan with 17093 votes

Margin of victory: 1,630

 

PK-53 Mardan-VI

Winner: PTI’s Muhammad Abdul Salam with 19,192 votes

Runner up: ANP’s Ahmed Khan with 19,131 votes

Margin of Victory: 61 votes

It is worth mentioning here that for the first time in the Country’s history, Overseas Pakistanis also exercised their right of franchise in elections, and out of 7,364 registered voters, 6,233 cast their votes (5,117 for National Assembly and 1,116 for Provincial Assemblies seats).

However, their votes have not yet been included in number of votes cast from within the Country.

Talking to media in Islamabad, the ECP Spokesman Nadeem Qasim said that the Commission will decide the fate of votes cast by Overseas Pakistanis after a meeting with NADRA Officials today.

The ECP Spokesman said that the votes of Overseas Pakistanis would be included in overall results only after ECP’s full satisfaction.
