LAHORE, Pakistan: The two-day Asma Jahangir Conference 2018 will be held on October 13-14 at Avari Hotel in Lahore under the theme “Justice For Empowerment”.

The Conference is hosted by AGHS Legal Aid Cell – founded by late Asma Jahangir in 1987 to provide free legal assistance to the needy – and is being held in collaboration with the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.

The Asma Jahangir Conference 2018 celebrates the vision and legacy of Asma Jahangir, an internationally acclaimed rights activist and Constitutional lawyer of Pakistan.

It will discuss and devise strategies for the promotion of justice by strengthening the rule of law and democracy, protection of fundamental rights, strengthening the independence of the judiciary and mainstreaming gender.

The renewed lawyers and human rights activist Asma Jahangir breathed her last on February 11, 2018 after she suffered a cardiac arrest at the age of 66.

Following her death, the Asma Jahangir Foundation (AJF) was established, aimed at to maintain funding and support for major projects she left as her legacy.

Based in Pakistan, Asma Jahangir Foundation supports AGHS Legal Aid Cell, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and South Asians for Human Rights.
