News594 Pakistanis are in Indian jails

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Upper House of Parliament of Pakistan–the Senate has been apprised that 594 Pakistanis are incarcerated in Indian jails at present while 472 Indians are imprisoned in Pakistani jails.

These figures were submitted in the Upper House by the Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi in response to a question raised by Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Senator Mohsin Aziz, seeking details of Pakistani and Indian prisoners in each other’s jails.

Senator Mohsin Aziz had also sought the details about the number of Pakistani prisoners released by India and the number of Indian prisoners released by Pakistan during the last five years.

The foreign minister apprised that currently, 594 Pakistanis are jailed in India whereas 472 Indians are facing imprisonment in Pakistani jails.

Qureshi further informed that 420 Pakistani prisoners were released by India in last five years while 1997 Indians prisoners were released by Pakistan in the said period.

Separately in reply to another question, the minister told the House that a total of 6450 Pakistanis are currently jailed in Gulf Countries mostly in Saudi Arabia and UAE wherein 2970 and 2600 Pakistanis are imprisoned respectively.
