KARACHI, Pakistan: The former President and the Co-Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the incident of setting the girls schools on fire in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district.

In a statement issued on Friday, Zardari said that keeping the girls away from education will be injustice to the society.

Asif Ali Zardari said that those who set the schools on fire must be punished.

Earlier last night, 12 girls schools were burnt down and books were thrown outside the schools in Chilas, the Capital of Diamer district. However, no casualties were reported as school buildings were empty when they were attacked.

Talking to media, the Superintendent Police (SP) Diamer Roy Ajmal said that no one has claimed responsibility for the incidents as yet.

The Commissioner of Diamer-Astore Division Abdul Waheed Shah said that the people behind the arson and bombing of schools will be apprehended soon.

Separately, the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Rehman Malik took notice of attack on schools in Chilas area of Gilgit Baltistan.

Rehman Malik sought report of the incident and directed to arrest the miscreants.

Meanwhile, the Diamer Youth Movement has called for a protest in Chilas against the targeting of education institutions in the district.
