KARACHI, Pakistan: Sitara-e-Imitiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz receiver famous Pakistani satire and humor writer Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi has passed away in Karachi on Wednesday after a long illness. He was 94 years old.

Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi was born in a learned family of Jaipur, Rajasthan (India) on September 4, 1923.

His books included Chiragh Talay (1961), Khakam-ba-dahan (1969), Zarguzasht (1976), Aab-i-gum (1990), and Sham-e-Shair-e-Yaaraan (2014).

Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi was also awarded Kamal-e-Fun Award in 1999 for his life time achievements in literature. So far only 17 Pakistani writers and poets have been given Kamal-e-Fun Award since 1997 for their work in creative as well as research field.

In recognition of his services for literature, Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi earned Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) Award in 1999, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Crescent of Excellence) Award in 2002, Quaid-i-Azam (Memorial Medal), Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Award for ‘Best Book’ in 1990, Hijra Award, and Adamjee Award for ‘Best Book’.

In a statement, the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan also extended heartfelt condolences over the demise of Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

Imran Khan said that an era of Urdu literature has come to an end today.

“His contributions to Urdu literature are invaluable,” the Chairman PTI said. “I pray to Almighty Allah that the departed soul May rest in Heaven,” he added.
