Careem, the app-based ride-hailing Company popular across the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan, revealed to have suffered a Cyber attack in January 2018.
“Dear Customers, we have identified a cyber incident that took place in January 2018 involving unauthorized access to the system we use to store data. Our wider security protocol keep passwords encrypted and credit card details on a separate system,” read a statement issued by Careem on its official twitter account on Monday.

The prominent ride-hailing Company, however, also released a detailed statement on its official website, stating “We have seen no evidence of fraud or misuse related to this incident, it is our responsibility to be open and honest with you, and to reaffirm our commitment to protecting your privacy and data.”
“We also want to share with you the actions we’re taking to address the issue and to prevent it from happening in the future.”
Careem also stated that as soon as the Company detected the breach, it launched a thorough investigation and engaged leading cybersecurity experts to assist it in strengthening its security systems.
“We are also working with law enforcement agencies,” it said.
