ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was informed on Thursday that about Rs 2.7 billion had been spent by the federal government to up-grade and provide missing facilities to the schools.

Responding to questions during question hour, the Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhary informed the House that up-gradation of 200 educational institutions in the Federal Capital would be completed soon.

The minister said under the up-gradation program, schools and colleges would be provided with modern facilities including new classrooms, laboratories, libraries, latest security gadgets and elevated boundary walls. He said about Rs. 80 million had been spent for the construction of the boundary walls.

To another question, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said majority of Private Educational Institutions of Islamabad were charging separate computer fee from students of various classes.

The minister said the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) had made the Private Educational Institutions (Registration and Fee Determination) Rules 2016 but it had been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on the issues of fee structure and regulation.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the PEIRA currently could not determine and regulate fee structure of those private schools and colleges due to sub-judice matter. However, he added, during revision of those Rules in the light of judgment of the IHC that aspect would be decided accordingly.
