News2018 elections will determine who leads Karachi: Sindh governor

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair on Friday said 2018 general elections in Karachi would be very interesting, and maintained that the polls would determine which party ruled the Country’s economic hub for years to come.

While addressing at “Meet the Press” in National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad, Zubair said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would give tough time to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in next general elections in Karachi while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would also manage its space in Sindh’s Capital. He said MQM was a genuine political party in the past but now it had lost that position.

The governor said law & order and energy were main impediments for Pakistan in 2013 but they fought with both of them as now Pakistan had no energy crisis whereas law and order in Karachi had certainly improved as compared to the past.2018 elections will determine who leads Karachi: Sindh governor

Lauding the role of Rangers in Karachi, Muhammad Zubair said the paramilitary force did a great job to restore peace in the Provincial Capital. He said they took all stakeholders on board, and did not interfere in the work of Rangers which eventually yielded excellent results.

The Sindh governor said they took action against everybody irrespective of his/her political background and it was the key of success in normalizing Karachi law and order situation.

Talking about the Lyari Expressway in Karachi inaugurated by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on January 28, Zubair said the 38-kilometer long project – consisted of 20 bridges and four interchanges – was completed at a cost of Rs 10 billion.

Muhammad Zubair said Green Line Transport Project was also ready to be operated. He said the operation of the transport project was responsibility of the Sindh government. He said the federal government had provided construction work and infrastructure development for the green line project.

“I am still working to boost economy of Karachi,” Zubair said adding international investors were now coming to Karachi.

Zubair said they were inviting everybody who could contribute to uplift Karachi. He said initial growth of Pakistan was led by Karachi and it would play its role again if we managed peace in the City.

Commenting on the recent political development in Balochistan, the Sindh government said Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari was leading the Balochistan Cabinet in Karachi.

“This is not good and it is bringing bad name to democracy,” the governor said.

The Sindh government said PML-N would work on Balochistan and would try to choose middle class in Balochistan instead of electables. He said Balochistan politics was hostage to electable trend and we must come out of that to provide honest leadership to Balochistan

Later on, Muhammad Zubair also had a tour of NPC and lauded the work of its leadership which included President NPC Tariq Mehmood Chaudhry, Secretary Shakeel Anjum, senior journalists Afzal Butt, Farooq Faisal Khan, Agha Iqrar Haroon, Waheed Ahmed Chaudhry, Jahangir Minhas and Amjad Siddiqui Chaudhry etc. He said he saw NPC in the past but not it had become an altogether different place.

The governor also appreciated the physical development in NPC as well as its library and ambiance of the dining room.
