RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has commenced arduous task of upgradation and widening of Skardu-Jaglot road which is the only link between Gilgit and Skardu.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Inter Services Public Relations said that the project encompass 164 kilometers long Skardu-Jaglot road in the most treacherous area all along Indus river.

The ISPR said that the road design includes five tunnels, one of which is eight kilometers long. The road when completed shall reduce Jaglot-Skardu traveling time from presently about eight hours to less than three hours.

The project will be completed in two years.

The FWO has to its credit so many such challenging projects including 1300 KM long historical Karakoram Highway and thousands of kilometers road network in difficult areas of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan.
