KARACHI, Pakistan: The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) has expressed series concerns over sacking of journalists from Express Group and non-payment of salaries in Geo News.

In a joint statement issued in Karachi, the KUJ President Syed Afzal Mohsin and the General Secretary Hamid-ur-Rehman condemned the sacking of reporters, cameramen and photographers in Express Media Group as well as non-payment of salaries to journalists in Geo News.

The KUJ president and the general secretary demanded the Express Group to restore the sacked employees. They also demanded the Geo News to immediately disburse the salary among journalists working in the group.

They said that if the demands put forward by the Karachi Union of Journalists are not fulfilled, they will soon announce the next course of action after consultation.

Separately, the President of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ – Dastoor Group) Mazhar Iqbal and the General Secretary Khawar Nawaz Raja also voiced serious concerns over non-payment of salaries for November 2017 to Islamabad-based journalists affiliated with Geo TV.

They demanded the Jang group’s Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman to ensure that journalists are paid their salaries immediately.

The RIUJ Dastoor’s top office bearers also said that they will reach out to Geo employees on November 23 (Saturday) to express solidarity with them, and will also meet Geo TV’s Director News Rana Jawad to convey their reservations about non-payment of salaries.
