LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday morning visited the $1.6 billion Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) Project route in Lahore, and reviewed progress of work on different stations.

His visit took place a day after the Supreme Court of Pakistan allowed the Punjab government to proceed with the Construction of the project, setting aside the ruling of Lahore High Court (LHC) which had in August last year barred the provincial government from carrying out any construction work near 11 heritage sites.

Meanwhile, after a long delay of 22 months, work on OLMT started again today in the light of Supreme Court’s decision.

During his visit to the OLMT route, Shahbaz Sharif was briefed about the latest status of development work at different points of Orange Line Metro Train Project.

The Chief Minister visited different points of Orange Line, and directed the whole team to work round the clock and complete the project as soon as possible so that this huge gap because of stay orders could be compensated.

The 27-kilometre project was earlier scheduled to be completed by December 25, 2017; however, now the Punjab government is planning to complete it by April 2018.

Earlier on Friday, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan headed five-member Supreme Court Bench though allowed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Punjab government to go ahead with the OLMT project with over 30 conditions; however, the petitioners against the project construction have now decided to file a review petition.
