The High Commissioner of Pakistan Tariq Azim Khan has appreciated the efforts of Developments in Literacy (DIL-Canada) to promote primary education in Pakistan.

While addressing the Annual Gala 2017 of Developments in Literacy (DIL-Canada) at Ottawa, Tariq Azim said that it is our moral, social and religious duty to contribute generously towards education for unprivileged segment of society in Pakistan.

The High Commissioner informed the participants that despite scarce resources and daunting challenges, the government of Pakistan and the provincial governments are fully aware of the socio-economic needs of the common man. He said that the net national primary school enrolment has improved to 65 percent and the national literacy rate has increased to 61 percent in 2016 from 35 percent in 1990.

The envoy added that along with public sector, the private sector including non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can play a significant role in improving the quality of education for students who are from low income communities.

The Member of Canadian Parliament Andrew Leslie read the message of the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in which he appreciated the organizers of the annual fundraiser for a noble cause.

“I would like to thank you for your support of DIL schools in Pakistan for underprivileged and disadvantaged young children. I believe that this type of generosity truly embodies what it means to be Canadian,” the Canadian prime minister said in the message.
