The popular social media instant text/voice messaging and video call service WhatsApp remained shut down in Pakistan briefly on Friday morning.

WhatsApp service was disrupted and ceased working at 5 am; however following a three-hour hiatus, it was restored at 8 am.

As the WhatsApp service went down across Pakistan, a few internet users went to Twitter and wrote about the disruption in one of the most popular web applications with hashtag #WhatsAppdown.WhatsApp shut down in Pakistan briefly

It was the second time in the ongoing month that WhatsApp service was briefly disrupted as such first incident occurred in the wee hours of November 3.

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), there are now 46 million 3G/4G broadband subscribers in the Country having a total population of 220 million while in a recent statement, the Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the federal government was planning to launch 5th generation cellular services soon to ensure the fastest connectivity.

However in the terror-stricken Country which also lacks sound telecom infrastructure system, Pakistanis so often experience the disruption of either internet services or a specific social media service; or sometimes even both.

Earlier September 2012, the video-sharing website YouTube was blocked in Pakistan for three years. Likewise, internet services also go down so often in the Country for either law enforces deem it necessary or a potential tool to prevent a terror act; or sometimes other technical problems cause Pakistanis a lot of suffering.
