PoliticsOnly democratic system can make Pakistan stronger: Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposing Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on Tuesday appreciated the statement of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and said only democratic system could make the Country stronger.

On Monday while interacting with members of defence committees of the National Assembly and Senate at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi, the COAS had said he was an ardent supporter of democracy and believed in the supremacy of parliament.

“We are in favour of continuity of democracy in the country,” Khursheed Shah said while talking to the media persons at the Parliament House on Tuesday.

The Opposition Leader further said it was democratic right of every political party, having majority, to elect its opposition leader.

“If even Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has clear majority in the National Assembly then it can elect its opposition leader,” Khursheed Shah said.

Khursheed Shah said assembly should complete its tenure in order to strengthen democratic institutions in the Country.

Talking about Chairman National Accountability of Bureau (NAB), the Opposition Leader said the consultation process was underway with opposition parties and the government regarding appointment of new Chairman NAB.

“I have requested Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as well as opposition parties to provide list of names for appointment of Chairman NAB,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition said an honest, capable, non-political and acceptable for both the government as well as opposition parties should be appointed as the NAB Chairman.
