ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won 16 national assembly and 27 provincial assembly seats as a result of by-elections in last four years, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Whereas Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won six national assembly and nine provincial assembly seats followed by Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) which won five national assembly and 12 provincial assembly seats from May 2013 to August 2017.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) grabbed three national assembly and two provincial assembly seats, Awami National Party (ANP) one national assembly seat, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Party one national assembly seat, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) one seat each from national and provincial assembly, Awami National Party (ANP) two provincial assembly seats, National Party one provincial assembly seat while independent candidates secured two seats of national assembly.
The constituencies from where PML-N won national assembly seats included NA-120, NA-68, NA-71, NA-83, NA-103, NA-129, NA-69, NA-137, NA-108, NA-19, NA-122, NA-153, NA-101, NA-267, NA-63 and NA-162.
PTI won from NA-5, NA-13, NA-25, NA-27, NA-48 and NA-154; PPP from NA-177, NA-235, NA-237, NA-218 and N-258; MQM from NA-254 and NA-246; Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party from NA-262 where two independents became member of national assembly from NA-149 and NA-144.
It may be mentioned here that PTI could win just one by-election for national assembly seat after the 2013 general elections, and in which Jehangir Khan Tareen defeated PML-N’s Candidate.
While PML-N secured all its seats including NA-122, NA-137, NA-153 and NA-101 and grabbed a huge victory in local bodies elections in Punjab, clean swept in Azad Jammu & Kashmir elections and Gilgit-Baltistan polls.
