NationalSufficient funds provided for literary projects: PAL Chairman

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The present government while paying a special consideration on literary organizations and taking a particular interest in literary activities provided resources to Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) to proceed further in literary projects.

In a statement on Monday, the Chairman PAL Professor Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio said that he highly appreciate the government for allocating funds for various new and ongoing projects of academy in current financial year.

The Chairman PAL paid a special recognition to Advisor to the Prime Minister for National History and Literary Heritage Division Irfan Siddiqui whose concern and personal interest made easier the approval of development funds for PAL’s new projects including PAL’s regional offices in Multan and proposals for providing buildings for new offices in Quetta, Peshawar, Dadu, FATA, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit-Baltistan.

“The significant steps like the enhancement in the writers’ stipend, the new induction in national literary awards, the approval of PAL’s new regional offices and the provision of required funds for PAL’s auditorium have been taken by PAL, with the cooperation of current government, which is appreciated by writers all over the country,” he said.

“We wish to take considerable steps for the promotion of literature and writers and that’s why we have expedited PAL’s new literary projects,” he added.

The Chairman PAL said that earlier, PAL prepared and initiated a number of literary projects but due to meagre funds all were in pending but the present government provided resources to PAL to proceed further in literary projects.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
