RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that its Tweet released on April 29 regarding a government notification related to Dawn leaks investigation ‘stands withdrawn and has become infructuous.’

“The tweet on 29 April 2017 was not aimed at any government office or person,” the ISPR said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ISPR said that recommendations as contained in Para 18 of the Inquiry Committee Report, duly approved by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, have been implemented which has settled the Dawn leaks issue.

“Twitter post stands withdrawn and has become infructuous,” the ISPR further said.

It said that Pakistan army reiterates its firm commitment and continued resolve to uphold the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and support the democratic process.

Following the clarification from the ISPR, now the Dawn leaks issue has been resolved amicably and no further action any person or institution will be taken.

Earlier on April 29, Pakistan army via a tweet issued by the Director General ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor categorically rejected the notification released by the Prime Minister’s Office in Dawn Leaks issue, saying it “is incomplete and not in line with recommendations by the Inquiry Board”.

Dawn Leaks issue stands settled: Interior Ministry

Meanwhile in a statement today, the Interior Ministry said that action on orders of the prime minister on recommendations of Dawn Leaks Inquiry Committee has already been completed and the issue stands settled.interior ministry

The Interior Ministry said that it said there is need to develop a Code of Conduct for the Print Media especially when dealing with issues relating to security of Pakistan.

It said that the Inquiry Committee recommended that the role of Daily Dawn, its Editor Zafar Abbas and reporter Cyril Almeida in the case may be referred to All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) with a direction to take disciplinary action against them.

The Interior Ministry said that the action already taken by the Federal government against Senator Pervaiz Rasheed is endorsed.

It also said that the Committee unanimously agreed that the then Principal Information Officer (PIO) Rao Tehsin Ali had not displayed the required level of professionalism and has shown carelessness while dealing with the issue. It said that the Committee recommended that he may be proceeded against under the Efficiency and Discipline Rules.

The Committee also recommended removal of Syed Tariq Fatemi from his portfolio of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs.
