Islamabad, Pakistan: The President Mamnoon Hussain has assented to the “The Hindu Marriage Bill 2017” on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Marriages of Hindu community would be documented as of Muslims.

The new law protects the institution of Hindu marriage and safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of Hindu families.

“Our Government has always focused on provision of equal rights to minority communities residing in Pakistan. They are as patriotic as any other community and, therefore, it is the responsibility of the State to provide equal protection to them. Government will appoint marriage Registrars in areas convenient for Hindu population for registration of their marriages”, Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in his message to Hindu community on Sunday.

Marriage Registration document for Hindus has eight columns including the date of marriage, name of the union council, tehsil, town and district where marriage takes place, name of bridegroom (along with his father name), CNIC number, name of bride along with name of her father and mother and date of her birth. Form also explains matrimonial status of bridegroom and bride as single, married divorced widower and number of dependents.

Both the bride and the groom will sign the document along with one witness and the registrar.

The Hindu marriage bill is the first personal law to regulate marriages of Hindus living in Pakistan will provide documentary proof of their marriage.
