Foreign OfficeJamat-ul-Ahrar carrying out terrorist activities from Afghanistan: Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office said on Thursday that Afghanistan-based Jamat-ul-Ahrar is carrying out terrorist incidents in Pakistan, and urged the Afghan leadership to take necessary steps to address our concern.

“We have raised the issue terrorist activities on Pakistan soil from across the border,” the Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said at his weekly press briefing in Islamabad.

The Spokesman said that continuing instability in Afghanistan has created space for the non-state actors and terrorist organizations to find their foothold in that Country.

Jumaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter group of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has accepted its responsibility for many terror acts in Pakistan including February 13’s Lahore blast.

Last Wednesday, through Afghan Deputy Head of Mission in Islamabad, Pakistan conveyed its grave concern to Kabul about the continuing terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil by Jumaat-ul-Ahrar from its sanctuaries inside Afghanistan.

In reply to a question, Nafees Zakaria said that investigation is underway in Lahore bombing and some arrests have been made.

Nafees Zakaria also pointed out that India has been involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan has taken issue to the UN Secretary General about involvement of India in terrorist activities in Pakistan.

To a question, the Spokesman said that Indian defence buildup is not in the interest of the region.

“It is a matter of grave concern and endangering the peace in the region and disturbing the strategic balance,” Zakaria said.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
